FAQs

From the Reading List, which book should I start with?

If you're looking to get a jumpstart on your reading, The Big Fat Surprise is a great place to begin! This book, as well as The Nourished Kitchen, The Stress Solution, and Why We Sleep are utilized in the first two units of your program and are intended to be read by chapter assignment, as opposed to being used for reference as with Nutritional Therapy and Introduction to the Human Body.

For students who wish to spread the purchase of these books based on when they will be introduced in the curriculum, use the following guide to coordinate your purchases accordingly. Please note, once a book is introduced, it may be utilized across all remaining units. This guide simply outlines the first time you'll need a particular book so you can time your purchases if desired.

IMPORTANT! We have linked to the version of each book that you need for class and ask that you utilize the edition specified to ensure you have the latest information.; you may receive your loose-leaf edition in bound form, depending on the warehouse that is shipping for Amazon. If you receive this, you are in good shape! As long as the cover says "Loose Leaf", you have what you need for class!

Unit 1
Nutritional Therapy (3rd edition, ebook) by Dr. Alan GabyIntroduction to the Human Body (11th edition, loose leaf) by Gerard TortoraThe Nourished Kitchen by Jennifer McGruther (Recommended as a resource for Food Relationships and Practices--but assigned reading will begin in Unit 2)

Unit 2
The Nourished Kitchen by Jennifer McGrutherWhy We Sleep by Matthew WalkerThe Stress Solution by Dr. Rangan ChatterjeeThe Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz

Unit 3
Digestive Wellness by Elizabeth LipskiGlucose Revolution by Jesse Inchauspe

Unit 6
The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin

Is the Nutritional Therapy e-book searchable on my computer?

Yes! This is a key benefit as it's easier to navigate. Nutritional Therapy has more than one million words and 16,900+ references to the scientific literature, making it 12 times larger than a typical textbook. This special edition combines Dr. Gaby's analysis of 50,000+ research studies and his clinical experience. He's branded it specifically for the NTA and has provided students with an exclusive discount!

Is the Nutritional Therapy e-book a special edition?

Yes! We are so excited to bring to you a special edition of Nutritional Therapy by Dr. Alan R. Gaby! This book is a required text for Nutritional Therapy Practitioner students. Nutritional Therapy is a science-based textbook, the result of over 40 years of research by renowned authority on nutritional therapy, Dr. Alan R. Gaby. Dr. Gaby has combined his analysis of more than 50,000 research studies and his clinical experience to produce the definitive textbook on nutritional therapy. Dr. Alan R. Gaby branded this version of his Nutritional Therapy textbook specifically for the Nutritional Therapy Association and has also provided NTP students with an exclusive discount on this e-book!

What if I do not like reading in e-book format?

While we understand that amazing feeling of holding a book in your hands, this book is not one built for this. Again, this book is 12x larger than your average textbook and weighs close to 9lbs, with more than 16,900 references to the scientific literature. This is not your typical “page-turner”! In an e-book format, you can effortlessly search for keywords or page numbers from your computer so that you can use your time much more effectively. This is why we strongly recommend the e-book version! We don't think you'll have any regrets with this portable and easily searchable reference!

Is there a hard copy version I can order?

Yes! You may purchase Dr. Gaby's Nutritional Medicine textbook, which has the same contents as the Nutritional Therapy e-book. Dr. Gaby has generously discounted the Nutritional Therapy e-book for NTP students (the discount is already included in the price), and is also offering a discount of $50* on the Nutritional Medicine hardcopy textbook.

Please note:
We strongly recommend using the e-book version to make the most of your NTP classroom experience. If you choose the hard copy, be sure to order the third edition.

*To receive the $50 student discount on the hardcopy Nutritional Medicine textbook, when ordering at doctorgaby.com, enter the coupon code minus 50 on the View Cart page: (note: there is a space between minus and 50). In the "Order notes" section of the Order Form, please mention that you are with NTA.

Wondering what format is best for your other textbooks?

The most common question we get is whether or not other editions and formats of books are acceptable. If audio, Kindle, or other formats are available, you are welcome to purchase whatever suits your learning style and meets your budgetary needs.

Do I need to purchase a specific edition of the textbooks?

We do link to the specific editions required for the course and ask that you utilize the edition specified to ensure you have the latest information. The page numbers in these specific editions will correspond to your assigned reading.

The loose-leaf version of Introduction to the Human Body is the one the curriculum team has vetted.
All the assigned page numbers correspond to that format—but we have had many students successfully use the EMEA version, which is paperback. They have not experienced any issues, so you should be okay with that format!

Do I need to purchase Wiley Plus edition with the Introduction to the Human Body?

No, the NTA does not utilize Wiley Plus.

Is the NTP program accredited?

The Nutritional Therapy Association is a private vocational school in Washington State, licensed by the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board, that trains practitioners to address nutrient deficiencies and body imbalances through holistic nutrition. Our programs are not accredited by the Department of Education.

Do I need to attend both weekly calls?

You may attend at the time that works best for you, no need to attend both!

The duration of each class will be 90 minutes, and you will receive the Zoom access information inside your NTP classroom on Canvas.

Still have questions?

We're here to help, reach out to an Advisor today.

Is attendance mandatory?

No, attendance at the live call is not mandatory, but it is strongly encouraged as you will have the opportunity to ask questions during the live Q&A and interact with your peers in break-out activities.

Watching the recording of the live lecture is mandatory if you miss a live call, however, as the information presented will be necessary for success in the course.

What can I expect from the live calls?

Your instructors will be covering key learning objectives that are critical for your success in the course. They will provide clinically relevant lectures, lead students through workshopping and breakout exercises, and address student questions to deepen their understanding of the material.

Does the same instructor lead both calls/is the call content identical?

Yes, both weekly calls will be led by the same instructor and the content will be identical.

Are the calls recorded?

Yes, all live lecture calls will be recorded so you can watch them at a convenient time for you if you miss a live lecture.

What are the technology requirements?

A reliable internet connection, access to a computer desktop, laptop or ipad, and a word processing program of your choice are needed.

What are the laws in my state around practicing Nutritional Therapy?

The Holistic Council is the most up-to-date resource for staying aware of how laws may impact practicing in your particular state.

What are the weekly time requirements for the NTP Program?

We suggest dedicating 20 hours per week for:

- Attending a live weekly class call (optional, but highly recommended!), or watching the recording
- Completing any required reading
- Completing assignments
- Attending bi-weekly community group calls
